As Lunar design gets bought by McKinsey, I wonder what role designers will play in management consulting. In all, I’m looking forward to seeing the consequences of this deal on the relationship between design and management. What is it about designers or design that management professionals will put to good use? How do they value design?

“Design’s place in the world of management consulting is less obvious, but it makes sense. Design may have once been limited to wrapping products in pretty packaging, but today it’s an incredibly broad discipline, encompassing everything from products, branding, and business models to corporate strategy and structure.”

My answer, of course, is to design business models. By designing a business model that means starting with discovery, then definition, then developing and delivering the business model. Through iteration, prototypes. With emotional intuition and integrative thinking.
